South Island Secondary School’s Badminton tournament
Recently our badminton team competed in Dunedin and placed well for the youngest players there.
Our Westland High senior boys badminton team were invited to participate as representatives of the school in the South Island Secondary Schools badminton competition, held in Dunedin - 12 and 13 of June.
Their draw meant that on the first day, they played the Silver medal winners and the Bronze Medal winners of the tournament, so their competition was very strong. WHS Narrowly missed play offs for 5th and 6th place due to a count back on points, finishing up in 7th.
The Otago Badminton organiser said that he was really surprised by the level of the competition and he thought it was on a par with the National's competition standards.
Our team was the youngest there, so they can feel very proud of themselves. Well done to Scott Matthews, Jack Matthews, Alexander Sever and Jacob Kelly.''
