SISS Athletics - South Island Secondary School Athletics

Just wanted to share some exciting news about our school's athletes. Our school had a smashing performance in the Canterbury Athletics, and two of our students, Max Johansson and Tamsin Gillespie qualified for the Athletics event in Timaru.

Max qualified for both the 100m and 200m races, while Tamsin qualified for the 800m and 1500m races. Unfortunately, Tamsin had to miss the SISS Athletics due to sickness. But, Max did a great job representing our school! He finished 10th in the 200m race and 11th in the 100m race. We are still super proud of both athletes for their hard work and dedication. Keep up the great work, team!

Primary School Hokitika District Athletics

On 9th April, we hosted the Primary School Hokitika District Athletics event and it was a blast! Thankfully, the weather was on our side and we didn't have to worry about the rain. We had a whopping 38 young athletes from Year 7 and 8 who participated in different events. It was truly amazing to watch these talented kids in action.

We wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude to the teachers, parents, and staff members who worked tirelessly to make this event a huge success. Without their invaluable help, it wouldn't have been possible.

Tasman Secondary School MX Champs 2024

On Friday Jacob, Spencer and William competed in the Tasman Secondary School champs. The boys represented Westland High School proudly and battled hard for some great individual results. As Westland includes intermediate we were not eligible for any of the teams events as it required 3 riders at either Primary/Intermediate and/or 3 at Secondary school leaving William the only entry from Westland in the Intermediate and the other 2 in the Secondary category. Despite that William managed a best placing of 6th in one race, and Jacob and Spencer both achieved 2nd overall in their respective classes. There were some extremely tight battles with the boys show great determination to come through with the results.
