Congratulations, Bruce!
Bruce Miller, one of our Year 12 students here at Westland High, has secured one of 3 international scholarships to play rugby in Italy in 2025.
Bruce will spend six months from January 2025 training at the Rugby Parabiago Academy in northern Italy.
Bruce has been playing rugby since he was three years old and was a member of the Westland High School First XV this year, coached by our very own Mr Waller who also teaches English at Westland High School.
During the six months Bruce and the other members of the academy will train for 3 hours each day and attend school. He will play in the under 18 team and after 3 games will be eligible to play for the Italian Rugby Federation.
The Academy provides national level coaching and development with 10 dedicated coaches, a sports psychologist, physio, nutritionist and chiropractor all available to suppor the young athletes.
This opportunity comes as part of Westland High School's relationship with In Viaggio con Fede which saw 5 students from Italy attend Westland High School earlier this year. We are expecting 4 more rugby players as part of this initiative to arrive in January 2025.
The scholarship covers everything except airfares and there will be a fundraising event at the Woodstock hotel next month to help cover costs.
Great stuff, Bruce. We're very proud of you.
