Term 4 Sports in brief

This term has provided plenty of opportunities for students to have a go at various sports and to excel in some they prefer.

West Coast Secondary School Year 9 & 10 Futsal Tournament - 19/10/2023

The West Coast Secondary School Junior Futsal Tournament held in Hari Hari was organised by SWAS School this year. Our school sent three teams to participate, two boys and one girls team. Our boys' team, WHS A, managed to secure the 1st position jointly with Karamea School. Our girls' team secured the 4th position, and our second team also came 4th in the tournament. It was delightful sight to see our players supporting one another and the team. We are incredibly proud of our team for their achievement, and we would like to extend our gratitude to Deb Manera and Rob from the South Westland Area School for organising such an amazing tournament.

West Coast Secondary school Year 9 & 10 Rugby 7s - 25/10/2023

This year West Coast secondary school Year 9 & 10 rugby 7s competition was hosted by Buller High School. Our school had a team representing us in this competition, and it was such an awesome experience to see our rugby players develop their skills and game sense with each game they played. We got off to a great start, winning our first game against Buller High School's second team and our second game against the South Westland area school. Our third game against John Paul II was particularly interesting because both teams were having so much fun and even started playing a game of walking rugby, which was hilarious to watch!

Overall, it was an unforgettable day for our boys, and we're so grateful to Buller High School for organizing such an incredible event. Thank you so much for everything!

West Coast Secondary School Yr 9 & 10 Volleyball Tournament - 15/11/2023

On 15th November, Greymouth High School hosted a West Coast Secondary School Year 9 & 10 volleyball tournament. The tournament had two girls' teams and one boys' team competing. Overall, 12 girls' teams and 8 boys' teams from different schools participated, making it a great event. The boys' team started strong by winning the first three games but lost their quarter-final game. Nonetheless, they showed a lot of improvement throughout the tournament. Both girls' teams had a good start and it was great to see so many young kids playing volleyball for the first time. We would like to thank Mr. Richards for coaching one of the girl's teams and sharing his knowledge. Many thanks to Maddy for organizing this awesome event. All in all, everyone had fun and enjoyed their time with friends while playing volleyball.

West Coast Primary School Yr 7 & 8 Futsal Competition - 1/12/2023

Our school recently hosted the West Coast Primary School Year 7 & 8 Futsal Fun Festival. We had an amazing turnout with St Mary's and South Westland Area School joining us, and a total of 5 boys teams and 4 girls teams from three schools. It was so much fun to see the kids having a blast and learning how to play futsal, some for the very first time!

We want to give a big shoutout to our High School girls, Taylor and Eilish, who did an incredible job refereeing the entire tournament. And to wrap up the day, we had a Tug of War competition, which was an absolute hit! I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Rob Kennedy and Deb Manera for bringing their keen futsal players to this event and supporting our new initiative.

Overall, it was a huge success and we can't wait to host more events like this in the future. Thanks for being a part of our school community!
